There's a reason why Angelica Kitchen has an impeccable rep as one of New York's best vegetarian restaurants. Since 1976, this bright and airy, eco-friendly space has been serving consistently inventive dishes that satisfy herbivores and carnivores alike. Starters like their regaled walnut lentil pate are as flavorful and rich as any meat counterpart, and their desserts, free of any refined sugar or eggs, are necessarily indulgences (especially topped with tofu maple whipped cream — yum). Entrees feature completely organic and often locally grown vegetable, bean and tofu/seitan combinations, often with an Asian-inspired flare. Recommended: their signature Dragon Bowl, a combination of rice, beans, tofu, sea vegetables and steamed vegetables (top it with the balsamic vinaigrette), and the Olé Man Seitan, a homemade seitan & roasted vegetable mix folded into a warm whole wheat tortilla, dressed with smoky molé. Cash only.
