Every neighborhood has a special place to call its own. Here's a few of our favorites:
• Lower Height: Axum Cafe for flavorful Eritrean cuisine, friendly service, eating with your hands and sipping honey wine.
• Inner Richmond: Le Soleil (133 Clement) provides sophisticated vibe on tasty traditional Vietnamese dishes. Get the seabass.
• Inner Sunset: Alvin's is an intimate little coffee and tea shop that showers local patrons with love and cheer.
• Chinatown: After walking along Grant Street, you'll want a tasty bubble tea. Get it at the Sweetheart Cafe, 909 Grant.
It's after work and you want to chill out with a good drink, good energy, minimal fuss and optimal feelgood. Check out John Colins in the Financial District. This cozy bar is well regarded for friendly service, good music with live DJs, and a positive vibe. We love this place for its happy hour discounts on Guiness, Boddingtons and a slew of other imported and micro brew beers. Check out the calendar for upcoming events.

The weather outside is delightful and if you're lucky, you're out and about early! Where shall you go to sate your peppy appetite? Zazie is a great choice in Cole Valley with its fantastic breakfast/brunch menu and intimate patio area out back. Enjoy a latte or a soju bloody mary with your Eggs Monaco (poached eggs with prosciutto and tomatoes provencale) the gingerbread pancakes, or a croque madame. This cute French styled bistro gets busy on the weekends and has a large following among Cole valley locals so you'll want to get in early or patiently sip your latte as you wait. Slept in but still want Zazie good eats? Consider dinner at Zazie with their infamous pate Zazie, an entrée of lemon ricotta ravioli, their maple leaf pressed duck breast, or their grilled mascarpone polenta cakes. On Tuesdays Zazie waves the corkage fee.

Adventuring out to try Russian cuisine doesn't require you to suffer through frigid temperatures, learn how to do multiple backflips (and land them impeccably) or want for toilet paper. Really. Instead, you can simply wander into the Inner Richmond and step into cozy Katia's — which focuses on hardy Russian dishes served with a smile. Start, of course, with the borscht, follow that with fluffy blinis and then get ready for the buttery/meaty/creamy/yummy main courses like the pozharski chicken cutlets, the pel'meni beef filled dumplings in broth, and the egglplant caviar.

If you were a homesick Italian, where would you choose to eat? With that idea in mind, we can only recommend Ristorante Ideale in North Beach with its elegant and flavorful homemade breads, pastas and entrees that are sure to take you by the hand on a guide you on a delightful flavor tour through Italy. The risottos and raviolis are sublime and the the ambiance is comfortably intimate without excess flair or pomp that one might otherwise expect in North Beach to draw tourists. Don't ask us, however, for tips on finding parking in the neighborhood — we cab it there and avoid the hassle.

That's the delightful note you'll take away with you when you dine at this Salvadoran restaurant where the service is friendly, the sangrias flow like a never-ending string of smiles, and the food is swoonworthy. This mission hot spot is a class act with richly stuffed crab enchiladas, stunning guacamole that you'll want on everything, and creamy wonderful flan that you'll be dreaming about for days. Don't be fooled by the quaint number added to Panchita's name. It's no dive and makes for a great date destination or spot for celebration dinners with your friends.

We are not, I repeat not referring to a new kids flick coming out this summer when we say that we are in love with Underdog. What we do mean, however, is that we're ecstatic to find a place with amazing organic meat and vegetarian hot-dogs that don't make us feel icky inside for wanting to slather something in hot mustard and pickle relish. Pile it up with kraut, horseradish mustard, organic ketchup and whatever else you want to throw on your tube steak — and don't forget the amazing baked tater tots. Underdog is an avid and passionate supporter of organic, sustainable and recyclable everything. Seriously.

How many ways can you say yum in the Inner Richmond? Add oishi to your vocabulary and Genki to your personal list of good eats because this noodle house has what you've been looking for. The menu sports a startling variety of Japanese eats including over a dozen varieties of ramen, and nearly 20 robatayaki or grilled specials. Lambchops or salmon, asparagus wrapped in bacon with okonomiyaki or Japanese pancakes and a refreshing tofu salad. We're fans of Genki for small groups who want to share a variety of dishes family style. Extra points — Sapporo on tap.
